The camera will automatically overwrite the oldest files on the card, so no need to format the card. If you need older files for whatever reason, be sure to transfer them off before they get erased.

When i received the dash camera I also inserted a 32GB microSD card. It is important to note that once the microSD card got full, it automatically deleted the oldest recording to make room for the newest recording. Depending on how often you drive, the time span could be shorter (driving a lot) versus longer (driving less) for the oldest recording to be deleted. If you need to retain a recording, there is an option to save the recording permanently so it doesn't get deleted.
