“All I get is a Chattering Noise when using Digital Optical cable!! I've already returned one of these NS-SB314 Sound Bars because it does the same thing on the TWO I've tried now - when using a TosLink Digital Optical Audio cable (I've tried THREE all brand new!) on TWO different TVs (an Insignia 46" Plasma and a brand new 42" Sony Brava LED LCD, both with Optical Sound outputs) all I get is a disturbing "chattering" noise. The other two input types work, but I want to use TosLink Optical Audio which is better sound. TosLink is "Plug n Play", there's no reason this should be having problems! The connectors are well seated in the TosLink jacks, I hear the "click" when all the way connected, and again I've tried two different TV's and three NEW TosLink cables!! What is going on?!”

You need to change the audio output of your TV to "PCM" to use the digital optical audio cable.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Most likely your TV is not outputting in PCM format. Most TVs have an option in the menu to set optical output to PCM. Look for it. If it doesn't have one or isn't set correctly, this is probably your culprit. This sound bar is pretty dumb and can't make sense of any digital input that requires additional decoding, so the TV has to do it. Worked fine with my Westinghouse in PCM mode. If you set PCM and still doesn't work, you might have a defective optical port on the soundbar, or TV, or maybe the output on your TV is actually an input.

Samsung FAQ don’t even mention PCM when troubleshooting why the optical cable doesn’t work - blame interference of router and everything else. Thank you!
