the middle shelf is all one piece and can be left out during assembly for additional storage height. Shelf in, there is nowhere that can handle a DVD stored upright as the shelves are too short. The middle shelf is supported at five points and the shelf is metal, not glass. There is no center post at the front of the cabinet but if you were to create one, then the shelf could be cut in half to make a middle shelf for only one side.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I had the same problem. The shelves just slide in, so don't use the middle one and you will have around 12 inches of headroom. Just watch out for the 30 pound weight limit. I had to support the bottom shelf.
