• It is my understanding that you will need a 2.4ghz wifi signal. I do not believe a hotspot will work. Sorry.

• The unit requires a WiFi connection. Not much point without it. When you are away and want opener status or to open or close the door, Siri\HomeKit will connect to your HomeKit hub (usually Apple TV, but could be an iPad).If you don't have WiFi when you are away, no point in putting this unit in your garage.
