- Answer The internet does not connect to the IOGear device. The ethernet cable will connect directly to your machine(s). You can only use this device to share a keyboard, mouse and Monitor.

QuestionI still want to keep 2 monitors and 2 computers just want one mouse and one keyboard will this work if I just don't hook up the monitor parts?

- Answer I don't believe this unit supports hotkey switching - just the integrated hardware button on the switch itself. If a hot key is supported, setup instructions are not included in any of the supplied documentation, so I have not idea what hotkey is or how it could be configured.

- Answer I have not actually tried using my switch in that way, and I'd caution that this switch does not directly support HDMI (it uses the VGA style video port) so you would need at least one adapter - maybe more. An HDMI switch would probably be an easier option. If you only need the Video/Audio to switch, you can use a simple HDMI switch. If you want to share controllers or other USB hardware, you'd need an HDMI KVM. I've included a link to one of each here.

QuestionCan you use a keyboard sequence to switch between computers? For example, my current switch uses the scroll lock key with the up or down arrow.

- Answer You should be able to use this switch. However, please make sure that your keyboard output will have a male usb adapter to connect with the switch. I would suggest using a wireless keyboard above all as you will have lots of cables.

- Answer I think it gets is power from the USB so the answer is PROBABLY no. There is no way to attach an external power supply to it.

QuestionCan I use this to switch a hard drive between computers?My database is on an external hard drive. I am setting up a backup system and want to physically connect the hard drive to both computers but only active on one at a time. I want to be able to switch the drive (via a switch, not unplug from #1 plug in #2) to the backup computer if the original one were to crash. Will this switch work for that or is there a switch that will?

- Answer You could but I won't recommend using it in that manner. The computer won't know that it has been disconnected from display and usb. It may create issue when you are switching back to original computer.
