Hello SJ, The j5create - UltraDrive Mini Dock USB 3.0 and Mini DisplayPort Docking Station (JDD320) is designed specifically for Microsoft Surface 4/5/6 tablets. The JDD320 have 2 separate connectors that need to be connected to the computer, a Mini DisplayPort and a USB 3.0, which are set to the specifications of Microsoft Surface 4/5/6 tablets. If you do not have a Microsoft Surface 4/5/6 tablet, I recommend that you consider the j5create - USB 3.0 Mini Docking Station (JUD380). The JUD380 is compatible with Windows and macOS computers that have a USB 3.0 port.

It fits into the USB port and another small port near it. Works well. Keep in mind that Surface, as with many small laptops doesn't have the cooling system a desktop does, so don't overload it.
