The JUH377 is both bus and self-powered, it contains it's own 4 amp power adapter. Out of 7 ports, only one is the designated "BC" (battery charging port) for charging peripherals i.e. phones. The rest of the ports output 0.9 amps as compared to the one BC port outputting up to 1.5 amps. Yes, in the case where you do not have a USB 3.0 port on your computer a USB 2.0 port will also work; slower speeds are to be expected.
