It computes based on activity sensors though you can input specific activities like biking or weight lifting and the intensity of the exercise and duration and it will calculate the calories burned based on your age gender and weight.

The best bet is to calculate how many cal. you should have and try to stay at or below that if you want to lose or maintain weight.
