- Answer The model above this one (BAR 5.1) has available rear speakers that come with it. This model does not have the capability of adding additional speakers.

QuestionI have the surround sound turned on for my JBL 3.1, but the dialogue still sounds too soft. Is there a way to turn the middle speaker up while not amplifying the left and right speakers? I'd like to be able to hear voices more easily.

QuestionWe just purchased the JBL 3.1 sound bar with woofer. A lot of punch. I am having trouble hearing the center channel. For instance it’s hard to hear main characters speak, while the front and sub are great. Can the volume of the center channel be adjusted?

QuestionI just recently purchased this sound bar. After a short amount of inactivity the power shuts off or perhaps goes into standby. Is there a way to disable or lengthen the time with this feature? I have to hit the power button to get it to work frequently.

QuestionDoes this sound bar turn on when the tv is turned on or do you have to turn it on separately?

- Answer The soundbar will turn on when the TV is turned on the ARC HDMI connection is used to connect the soundbar to the TV. I connected my cable box, 4K player, and Xbox to the HDMI inputs on the soundbar and connected the soundbar to my TV's ARC HDMI input. The soundbar powers on with my TV and the volume is controlled with the TV remote. I believe that this is the best way to connect everything. I turn my TV off when switching from one device to another (such as cable box to 4K player). I have found it is easiest to turn off the TV and device connected to it and then turn on the device I'm switching to and TV. The soundbar automatically switches to whatever input connected to the device that I use provided all other devices connected to the soundbar are off. This method also allows streaming apps on my TV to play audio through the soundbar via the ARC connection. After some initial fr I've found that connecting external devices to the soundbar utilizing its pass-through feature and connecting the soundbar to the TV's ARC input works very well as long as I don't power on more than one external device at the same time. The only complaint I have is the soundbar repeating the last function (such as changing the input or volume) every time I push a button on my cable remote or 4K player remote. The only solution I have found for that annoying glitch is using my TV remote to control everything (I have a Samsung TV and 4K player). I haven't used my Xbox yet but I doubt that it will affect the soundbar as it doesn't utilize an IR signal like most home theater remotes. If you have devices from various manufacturers then it might be a good idea to purchase a quality universal remote. Also, I believe that the CEC function on both the soundbar and TV should be turned off when using the connections I've described if you are able to pair your TV remote with the soundbar. Hope someone finds this helpful. I spent many hours trying various setups and reading the experiences of others to figure it out. It would have saved me a lot of time and frustration if someone else explained it to me, hopefully I can save the person reading this from the same experience.

QuestionI have a JBL 3.1 sound bar And was wondering why when shutting off it displays mute then goes into standby mode? Went first purchase when the sound bar was turned off it went right to standby mode Why does it now display mute first? Thanks

- Answer Slow down, Make sure u have the right cables e.c.t. ,,, If set up properly its simple, check online J.B.L. 3.1 SOUND BAR. If U write down model # , Your set. Just go on-line .... enter J.B.L SOUND BAR 3.1 , all there is 2 it, Good-luck, Goodnight..................

QuestionMy soundbar started saying pcm when using apps on my TV. It used to say Dolby when using TV applications. How do I get it to say Dolby on TV applications?

- Answer The soundbar will only decode Dolby Digital output and not DTS. If you want to watch something that is not in the Dolby Digital format you will be stuck with crappy PCM sound. For example, just about all 4k blu rays have DTS sound so it is a real bummer that this soundbar cannot decode DTS :(

- Answer Unplug the HDMI connection and the power source, wait about a minute, and then plug it back in. I find that I need to do this with my Internet modem every so often.

- Answer If you just recently purchased this soundbar then you will likely not need to do an update. The last update posted by JBL was in December of 2018. The latest firmware is V49. To check if you have that version you can do this. From the remote- Press and hold the Dim button for 5 seconds then press the sound mode button and then night mode button. The soundbar will display the FW version, if you see Ver49, you are all set. Just a couple of FYI- It took me a couple of tries to get the sequence down to display the versions. Also the information scrolls rather quickly so pay close attention or you will need to repeat the process if you miss it.
