• The right headphone can be used by itself. The left one can not be used independently of the right one. The left one will only ever pair to the right one. If you use only the right one, the sound will be mono and not stereo.

• I misplaced my left earbud and can still listen to my music. But had it been the right earbud, it would not be possible as the bluetooth connect is on the right one.

• The right side is the dominant side and can be used by itself. I have not tried using only the left one. The initial pairing requires the right one, so I think the left is the slave to the right.
