“When you have multiple devices (phone, laptop), does it have a preference which one it gets connected to? do you have to turn off the bluetooth in the other device in order to connect to the one that you want to?”

It is recommended to shutdown products that have Bluetooth, that are not being used. They are often the reason for interference.
