The "glitter" is on the outside, but it isn't made of regular glitter that gets everywhere. It feels more like the texture of rocks. It's a very uneven surface and perhaps that's how they got it to look like glitter. In my opinion they should have covered it with plastic and it would have been a very nice looking case! The outside is very rough in your hand. I ended up returning it especially for this reason. Also I would assume that with prolonged regular use the exposed "glitter" my see some damage from sliding and scraping against other surfaces. I also worried about the case scraping against my leather handbags and possibly damaging them. Hope this helps.

My problem with this case was that the shinny looking "rocks" (for lack of a better word) are not smooth. I guess that is how it catches the light and looks so cute, the pieces are cut on different angles and without a top coat of plastic the "rocks" are quite rough on your hands and other objects that it comes in contact with. I was worried that if I had it in my handbag that the case could scratch the leather of my wallet, the inside of my bag and other items. I guess I'd suggest you check it out at your local store if possible and see if you could live with the very rough outside of the case. I really liked the way it looked and I wish that I could have kept it. Maybe they will change the design and add a top coat?!
