• No it does not. When it is first turned on each day it does a descaling process then brews a perfect cup of coffee it specifies to clean every six months. Otherwise there is very little maintainence.

• No it doesn't. I recommend not using tap water. Use bottled. If it does start to get scale, pour in a couple cups of white vinegar, let set for a couple hours, pour it out, run a couple cycles without a pod, and you're all set.
