It is safe to just open the door and stir. You may have a slightly different model number as mine is only 1000 watts. You can tell by looking inside the door frame. If necessary you can always reset the minutes necessary for the second stage. However, I would just close the door and press START to resume cooking.

Just open the door. It will pause the time and power. Remember you started heating so be careful. It might be hot. To restart close the door and press start.
