The 404 is *condenser drying*, so it does not have a heating element and fan. During the condenser drying process, the warm, moist air condenses on the cool walls of the dishwasher. The appliance then pumps out the water. Drying this way works very well for pottery, glass, and steel, but not plastic. It costs less to run since you don't have to use electricity to run the heating element and fan. On the 404, you’ll notice there’s a small slit on the top left above the handle which does not exist on the 604. That is because these dishwashers use a different system for drying the dishes. The 404 uses heated water and hot air to dry dishes while the 604 uses a fan-enabled ProDry System which combines a heating element and a fan. Another difference is the delay times. The 404 offers 2- 4-8 hour delays while the 604 offers 1-24 hour delays. Lastly, the 404 only has 2 stemware holders in the middle rack while the 604 has 4 stemware holders.
