“I'm wondering if the fridge door when open clears the height of a standard counter top. I currently have a French door fridge (bottom freezer) with dents in the door because my kids swing the door open and it hits the neighboring counter top.”

Based on the height of the top of our counter (36 inches), the Door fully opened could indeed hit the counter. Hope this helps.

Not a problem for me as the fridge sticks out 9 inches from the counter.
