Yes they open flat
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes, they open clearly to 90 degrees to door - flat to the bottom. These ovens have two great slide out extenders so I don't know that you would ever need or want to set anything on the doors. My prior oven was a Thermadors and if the doors were overextended for any reason, the hinges would tweak and then not close the door completely when cooking. And the hinges were $75 EACH so it was an expensive fix. BTW - we love this oven. Looks great and functions well.

I have not tried to put anything on them in that position - but if I did --- I would not put anything on there that is too heavy. Not sure why you would need to do that though. There are three racks in each of the double oven which all extend out fully.
