This would really depend on your surround sound receiver. These speakers have a pretty average sensitivity at 90dB/watt. The Maximum power handling is 200 W. This would allow for a maximum volume of 18000 dB. That should be sufficient for you're purposes, and you may be pretty happy with the results. Just be aware that you shouldn't crank it at 200 W for too long. 200 W is the peak power handling, not a constant power handling. I use mine as stereo speakers for hi fi because of their bright sound. My receiver puts out only 63 Watts/channel, but for my somewhat modest listening, it's more than enough power for me. Just don't expect too much bass out of them.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.that the sound would probably by pretty good, except seriously lacking in bass. They are rated down to 62hz, but the sound pressure at that frequency will be almost imperceptible. Any receiver that has enough connection for the 5 channels you describe should also have a sub out connection and you'll be WAY happier by adding that subwoofer. It sounds like you're on a budget (or you'd be springing for towers for the front) but if you can swing about $300 online for a klipsch subwoofer like I got, you'll love the way it shakes your windows watching movies. They go down around 20Hz, which you can hear as well as feel. That's a good thing! Oh, and pay no attention to the other post about 18000dB. That sound level isn't even mathematically possible from a nuclear detonation at ground zero which is more like 300dB and would easily shake apart skyscrapers and bridges. For reference, normal speech is 30dB, while 85dB is the Federal threshold for employee ear plugs. Pain begins at 120dB. A 400,000Watt rock concert is about 135dB. 140dB is equivalent of standing directly behind a jet engine at full thrust. 200-300 dB could disrupt bodily function to the point of death. Just sayin...
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I'm using the speakers only for surround rear speakers. If you really want to crank, get some larger three way speakers for the fronts. You can purchase them for a bit more and will be much happier.
