“Long a narrow living room w/ a very small space to fit the tv stand and speakers. With a sub and a Yamaha RXV483, would these work - relatively speaking - as stand alone speakers for music and movies? Don’t need home theate, just quality & ‘enough’ sound.”

These speakers pack a good punch, you shouldn’t need anymore treble quality and your sub will give you that extra umph. But these are great standalone as well

Yes they will work perfect, I have used them the same way and the sound is pure

Sure. I'm using a pair that I intended to use as my rear speakers for my front speakers due to a lack of space. The sound is wonderful for the exception of a lack of bass response. With a sub you should be pleased.
