Yes, they are passive, so an amplifier is needed.

The answer is yes. In order to get the extraordinary beautiful sound from Klipsch speakers, it's always better to have everything connected to a receiver,that includes a turn table, check at your nearest best buy store, they have an incredible variety of receivers, get the one that suits you best.
