You would be the best judge of the sound comparison, but my guess would be more of an upgrade than a lateral move; I would buy the newer pair. These are the latest iteration, with some cosmetic rivets. On the back, the new port is larger, round, and placed above the middle, closer to the tractrix horn than the woofer.

The RB-51 II has Cerametallic woofer found in the Reference Premier line, and the tweeter goes up to 24 KHz. These are more in line with the Reference Premier line of speakers.
