“I have SCLX904 rated at 8ohms 140 watts RMS,these speakers rms 85 watts and 340 peak power. would these be to much for my receiver plan to use and main f/l”

Receiver is probably too much for speakers. The speakers can HANDLE 85rms and peak over 300 but lowering volume lowers power to speaker. Ratings are at peak or full volume it's not that high all the time. Just like the horse power rating for a car. It's based on max output
