There isn't a switch. It's determined by the way the power cord is plugged into the cooler. On one end of the cord there is an arrow. On the other end of the cord, there is a blue and red dot. When you connect the two together, whichever dot is pointed to by the arrow determines if it will heat or cool. ie Blue is cool, Red is heat.
