A:Answer When I made this purchase it was as an add-on to an existing set of this make/model phone of years ago. Each of the new ones are independent of a central base, which affixes to the wall, and is the ONLY thing that permits one to set the remotes to respond to calls in/out. Without it you can do nothing. Further, it turns out that the maximum number of phones connectable to this system is SIX (6) total, meaning five remotes along with the base unit. Regards the actual question, I didn't see any ads selling a base unit and some number of remotes now. They may be out there, but remember that limitation on the max number you can use.
