You cannot view the screen when the case is closed. However, it does have a led indicator that you can customize. For me, I enjoy this more than being able to view the screen.

It will though display the time and text icon while closed. You can set it up.to display different patterns for different people.

However, the great news ...it displays the time, and displays when the number of a incoming call. Last but not least, it shows the icon for recieving a text. I cannot express enough how delighted I am with this cover. Also, easy to clean. Hope this helps.

If you want to see the screen you should select the style of cover that utilizes a clear integrated "window." Very clean design and function
