• Yes, you can go in to the Control Panel and look under Power Settings. You can customize your power usage there to extend your battery life.

• I'd not expect drastic improvements though. There's no standard tests so manufacturers are unlikely to be conservative in their estimates. Turning down brightness etc gets you more usage, but you're not going to gain an hour or something like that.
