No, you do not need another Alexa device in the home for this to work (just the Amazon account). It will work like an echo dot or plus, so if you happen to have one they should connect, but it can be a solo device. Otherwise, the dock will act as a speaker for the tablet even if you choose not to use the Alexa features.

You do not need an Amazon Echo for the Lenovo Smart Tab M10 to function. But it does work with an Amazon Echo.
