The stylus should work out of the box. No batteries included. The laptop charges the stylus. A full charge takes about 5 minutes.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. This model uses a "Super Capacitor" in lieu of battery. Approximately 5 minutes charge time gets it fully charged. Latest technology which is better than battery. If your pen doesn't charge quickly, do as I did and carry the pen to Best Buy and have salesman test it; Lenovo utility displays level of charge. My pen was good but a bad subcard in the notebook was replaced by Lenovo and fixed my problem. Machine now working GREAT!

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The Thinkpad Pen Pro worked as soon as I finished the initial boot up. No extra batteries needed as it's self contained and has contact points that charge when docked back into the storage on the side of the computer. After I installed Photoshop however, the stylus wasn't calibrated right out of the box. It registered movement, but the cursor was off. I simply launched the installed Wacom program and it worked great in just a few minutes after proper calibration.
