Hybrid drive simply refers to a two drive system, the second being this unit's 1 terabyte hard disk drive. The first drive is a solid state drive which is much smaller in size but also more quiet and faster. (At least that's how this seems to me.) It's used to load apps and settings more quickly, allowing the user to start working or playing shortly after system startup. Programs may still be installed on the hard disk drive, however, and the user shouldn't see too much of a difference.

The difference is there are no moving parts in it so it communicates with the other pc parts at a much faster speed than traditional hard drives that use spinning platters to read and write data to and from the hard drive. They're smaller than 3.5" drives more along the size of a laptop hard drive at least physically. The price is coming way down on solid state drives but they are more expensive for less space than a HDD. So it's a trade off of storage space versus price. But the speed difference is worth it. Prices will keep coming down as these SSD's become more common. Just a few years ago a 128GB SSD could cost as much as a new computer.
