The 8GB Memory is the amount of RAM in the computer. The 256GB Solid State Drive is the actual hard drive, or storage space for the operating system, files, photos and whatever else you put on it. The Solid State is better than a regular hard drive because there are no moving parts and the computer will run much faster. Hope that helps.
