It will depend on the software the student will be using. We recommend you check with the specific software publishers for the programs that the student will be using, for their compatibility with Windows 10 Home 64-bit operating system and the minimum/recommended hardware requirements (Is a Graphics card required, the processor speed and the minimum required system RAM and the minimum available hard drive space) to run their program, then compare those requirements to this system's configuration. This information should be available on the software web sites. You might be able to get an idea as to what programs will be used by the student on the school's web site or through the student orientation office at the school.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Should be good for a college student. Depends on your needs too- if just basic browsing/ videos/ Netflix/ music/ word/ excel this is plenty enough. But if you need to do programming/ your major is computer science/ information systems, you probably wanna get the 8gb model.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I bought this exact model, same specs, for my daughter. It's her freshman year and all her classes will be general education credits, nothing taxing to a laptop in the way of special software. She uses all of the software that came preloaded with the exception of Microsoft office 365. It's fast, convenient and she's getting good at going from using it as a laptop to folding it to a tablet and taking notes etc. We bought her a128gb dongle to use for any extra storage that she might need. It's perfect for her for school and general use outside of school. I looked at allot of devices and found this to be a perfect compromise of price, quality and convenience and the battery does very well for her and her 4 classes a term. She also signed up for the student deals and got $100 off at the time of purchase.

For doing things like browsing the internet, reading and creating documents, and taking notes, this is an excellent device! If your student is going into a program that may require software that is high-performance (design, engineering, etc.), I would recommend reaching out to her school to see if there are any hardware requirements that would need to be met for your student's program.
