“Is the space bar badly designed or did I get a lemon? If I press anywhere in the couple centimeters on either end of the space bar, it "clicks" but will not type a space--I have to press near the middle.”

I think you got a lemon. I have never once had trouble with the space bar.

The spacebar should work no matter where you press it. You may want to have your local Best Buy Geek Squad take a look at the device.

You may have a defective space bar. I am typing this response on my Yoga 720 and it does not exhibit the "click" you are describing.
