• When you purchase Office, the software is a download from Microsoft. There is no CD. I just installed office on my iPad, iPhone, and a Surface Pro. The installation was simple.

• No, the Office 365 is a download software and should be included with your surface. I use Microsoft Office 365 on laptops, tablets, and Andriod without external drives.
