Actually, you would probably want to use the optical cable that comes with the soundbar for the best sound quality. I have this soundbar and an LG 3D TV hooked to it and it works great! The 3D surround sound is amazing. I'm sure your TV has an optical cable input on the back. You may need to adjust the settings on the TV though once you plug it in to set it to optical output. It's under the audio menu on your LG TV.

I run my ps4 and Xbox through it (via an hdmi splitter ) through the hdmi port of the soundbar through to the TV. And, yes, it is important to make sure the hdmi cables support 3D
