“Replacing a microwave that is about 2" shorter. I think LG recommends min 30" top of stove to bottom of cabinet (even with extendavent), is that correct? AND if any one has this little clearance, is that really enough room to actually cook on the stove?”

OTR LMH2235ST has a recommended 30" minimum clearance from bottom of cabinet to cooking surface or countertop before installation. I cannot advise you of the feasibility of installing this unit with a lesser clearance.
