The most common substance used for refrigerator water filter is activated carbon. LG water filters are made from Korean premium carbon block, along with Japanese coconut activated carbon. - Answer No it's water only. Icemaker is in the freezer drawer. The door would be huge and take up a lot of the smaller space if it had ice too.

QuestionI see in an LG video that to change the water filter you need to shut off the water supply first. That seems a hassle, if it's behind the fridge. I've changed filters on other fridges without doing so. Is it really required??
