• The silverware basket does open or you can keep it closed and put utensils in each separate slot on the cover. It is also removable so when it's time to take care of your silverware you can take the entire basket out of the dishwasher. I love this feature and it has worked great. Hope this helps!

• For best cleaning results, use the top separators in the basket when loading silverware. The separators will prevent nesting of silverware. ^Daphane
