“When inputting cycle does the door have to be closed? I'm concerned about reading gray lettering on a gray door, especially since the buttons are on top of the door. This is not friendly for old people.”

Cycles are selected with the door open. You push start and it counts down 5 seconds for you to close the door and start the cycle. It is easy to read.

The door is opened a bit to allow use of the controls. Everything can be seen clearly (even with lettering on stainless) and a chime will sound when something is pushed. A small light can also be seen with the chosen options. The chime can be turned off but I found it to be helpful. It confirms that a button was touched/chosen. Once options are selected and the start button is touched it'll count down from 4 or 5 seconds. Once the door is closed the cycle will begin as long as it's before the countdown ends. It is a bit odd to have a countdown but there is plenty of time to close the door. No biggie if it's not shut, just push start again.
