Cycles are selected with the door open. You push start and it counts down 5 seconds for you to close the door and start the cycle. It is easy to read.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.No. I am also in my sixties and have had no problem seeing the controls or using this dishwasher. The door is opened a bit to allow use of the controls. Everything can be seen clearly (even with lettering on stainless) and a chime will sound when something is pushed. A small light can also be seen with the chosen options. The chime can be turned off but I found it to be helpful. It confirms that a button was touched/chosen. Once options are selected and the start button is touched it'll count down from 4 or 5 seconds. Once the door is closed the cycle will begin as long as it's before the countdown ends. It is a bit odd to have a countdown but there is plenty of time to close the door. No biggie if it's not shut, just push start again.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The door needs to be opened. I didn’t find it difficult to see . The power and wash options have lights above them.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Hello there! Thanks for reaching out about the LG LDPH5554D dishwasher. For this model, the door does need to be closed in order to select and start a cycle. The dishwasher’s control panel is designed to be accessed when the door is closed, which helps ensure that settings are properly inputted and the cycle starts correctly. We understand that visibility can be a concern, especially with gray lettering on a gray door. To make it easier for those who may have difficulty seeing the buttons, consider using a flashlight or magnifying glass to improve visibility while selecting the cycle.
