“Has the compressor issue been fixed in the newer models? What is the warranty on them?”

No it has not, run away fast! Not only have the issues not been fixed, but, when your refrigerator does inevitably break (only took 2 years for ours), you will have to deal with the worst customer service ever! Warranty is 5 years on cooling, but the warranty is no good if LG can't get a contractor to your house to look at it.
