Only had it chime once since the delivery "clean interior" day when I had the doors open extended periods of time. My husband didn't close door all the way, it closes different from old side by side , alarm was great feature, alerted us to the oversight.

A:AnswerSo far, no. The black stainless finish seems to be as durable as the other exterior material. To check, I took a metal kitchen utensil and (using the handle) tried to mark a lower corner where no one would see if it scratched. I tried the exterior body material, then the door, and neither one was marked. I'm sure it can be done, but probably not by incidental contact. I did not use a knife or fork tines, but I still think it was a good test for ordinary day-to-day kitchen use.
