• I use it for that and the colors and contrast are awesome! I use it next to my 5k iMac and it keeps up pretty well.

• Details are nice (4k), when calibrated it is fairly close to proper srgb. I use this one for detail, and a dell u2410 for color accuracy...it's a cheap way of hitting most of the bases before printing. And yes a a proper color representation is important to see before wasting money on a print.

• The quality of your photos depend on the quality of your camera and the quality of your printer. I don't think the monitor affects the quality of your picture when you print, at least that is what I was taught and learned.
