Can you connect external speakers to this monitor? null

I have 2 Bose ac powered speakers plugged into the headphone jack in the back of the monitor. It seems to be working perfectly.

There is an external audio out port on the back of the monitor. From what I understand you are supposed to be able to get sound to come out if device is hooked in with hdmi and speakers are hooked to audio out port. Still waiting for my speakers to come in to try.
