Not sure if you are using windows. But if you are you will need to stop the mirroring of your laptop screen to be able to use the proper resolution so that you can fill up the entire monitor as usable space. To do this open the display settings. Scroll down and you will see where it says "multiple displays" click the drop down and select, "show only on 2". This should make your laptop screen go dark and expand your the monitor to the appropriate width. If you have any additional issues, you can also download the drivers for the monitor onto your computer by going to the product site on the LG website. Just google your model number and you can click the LG site and download any needed drivers.

If the graphics card in your Elitebook supports the monitor's native resolution, right click on your desktop > Display Settings > Display > then scroll down to Display Resolution and select the monitor's resolution. If 2560 x 1080 is not shown as a selectable resolution, your graphics card does not support that resolution. You may want to contact the manufacturer for your Elitebook to inquire if you can customize the resolution for your graphics card...^IFV
