“Which type of connection is better for this unit, HDMI or optical?”

• HDMI can pass higher-resolution audio, including the formats found on Blu-ray: Dolby TrueHD and DTS HD Master Audio. These formats can't get transmitted across optical. ^Daphane

• If you wish to have ARC control (volume power from your tv remote AND your tv has arc hdmi then use that connection however I’m using optical with an LG tv and the sound is great both will have excellent audio response

• HDMI port with ARC is the one to use. Always use HDMI-ARC if possible
