It's not the ENERGY STAR® Qualified LG 42" Class (41.9" Diagonal) 1080p LED TV, Model # 42LF5600 that you need to worry about, it's the player that you will be connecting the TV that needs to be able to play those different discs. Blu-ray players are backward compatible which means that they will play CDs, DVDs and Blu-ray DVDs. However, you need to make sure that the player you are getting has the proper connections to connect to the TV. This TV has 2 x HDMI Input ports, 1 x Component port (color coded Red/Green/Blue) and shares the Audio Input with the Composite ports (i.e. the Red/White ports of the Red/White/Yellow RCA ports). The easiest connection to use is the HDMI port & all you would need is just one HDMI cable to connect the Blue-ray player to any of the TV's HDMI ports. You can watch video from any source that can be connected to this TV as long as the source is able to play your discs...^IFV
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. This tv won't be able to play any of those movies without another component. Your best bet would be to purchase a Blu-ray player since that can play both Blu-ray as well as DVD. Then if he is still looking to watch some of those VHS tapes, you could connect a VCR as the second component. This tv has multiple ports on the back and the Blu-ray player will connect with one of the HDMI ports, which leaves the red/white/yellow inputs free for that VCR.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. This tv has ports that will allow installation of all the devices necessary to play standard and Blu-Ray DVDs. The tv itself does not have a DVD player.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I have mine hooked to a PS4 which plays internet videos, DVDs and Blu-Rays and I find it does all three quite well. I would say though you will need a switcher if you are attempting to run two or more devices through it.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes...a HDMI cable is recommended
