The LG 4K UHD Smart LED TV - 49" Class (48.5" Diag), Model # 49UH6030 has a native resolution of 3840 x 2160 and like any TV, will always play content at its native resolution. Upscaling happens automatically when the unit is presented with a signal that is not in its native resolution. For example, if you have a 4K Blu-ray player, upscaling is not required since it will output a 2160p signal which is what your TV's native resolution is. TV Broadcasts, on the other hand, are broadcast either at 720p or 1080i and so upscaling is required so the TV will upscale it to or as near to its native resolution. If your Blu-ray player is only 1080p, the signal it sends to the TV will also be upscaled...^IFV
