I have only used one HDMI cable running from my LG TV's Audio Return Channel (ARC) HDMI port to the sound bar. That one HDMI cable turns the bar on whenever the TV is turned on and will send whatever audio source (Blu-ray player, Apple TV, Apple AirPlay from an iPhone or iPad or antenna) to the sound bar. I do not have a receiver. The OLED LG TV is the central connection for all of my devices. The HDMI cable I used was a 3'-4" Pearl 4K UHD HDMI cable with a throughput that exceeds 18Gbps. It is manufactured by audioquest. The Dolby Atmos sound it delivers is pretty amazing. Hope that helps.
