Could use a little more bass response...
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. To be honest, I was unhappy with my first one. You had toput your ear right next to subwoofer to even hear it. Took it back, and got another one. (By the way, Best Buy's refund/exchange policy is fantastic. No problems at all with the exchange.) After setting up the second unit, the subwoofer sounded fine, just not enough bass, but the 500 watts will blow your windows out if you turn it up. The mounting brackets are a complete joke. You can only hit 1 stud, and you have to buy the screws and anchors. Also, toss the included plastic ties. They break as soon as you pull on them. (Not good LG!!!) To solve my mounting problem, I built my own custom soundbar shelf. (see pics) For what this system costs, I would expect more bass, but the overall sound quality is good.

Awesome soundbar
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased the soundbar Christmas day hooked it up and was blown away at the sound. I went back and purchased the rear speakers that match. The soundbar was easy to pair with the Qled TV and just as simple to set up. Awesome sound, loud clear and just the right bass. I recommend this to anyone not wanting a reciever and wires everywhere..

Top notch soundbar!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'm upgrading from an LG SJ7 Soundbar Flex, which is amazing for what it offers in configuration setups. But like any other techie, being able to try something new is always a good thing! My first impressions of the SK9 was that the box it came in was huge! (W 8.25 x H 18 x L 49) took up the whole backseat of my sedan! Upon opening it reveals that the soundbar itself was the reason behind the packaging. While this is certainly an upgraded experience from the SJ7, It was well worth it for the higher end sound quality. The Dolby Atmos difference was definitely heard. It felt like the sound was traveling around me if you get what I'm trying to say...The options to change the sound quality is an added plus, while the ability to Chromecast audio from any supported Chromecast device is effortless. I have an LG 4K and the LG optical option makes sticking to the same brand all that more worth it. For the price range it is offered at, I believe it is a worthy price for what you're overall getting. Soundbars sure has come a long way. Definitely worth checking out! Great for gaming/movies too! Thanks.

Wow I thought my old sound bar was good
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I went to purchase a tv and got this as a combo pack with the tv (lg oled 2018 model). I got mine for $377 (including $200 off for purchasing at the same time as my oled). Whoa this thing is awesome. With the hdmi connection to the tv it turns on and off with the tv automatically, the tv volume control also changes soundbar volume and there were tv settings to only output sound through soundbar (among others). This thing gets loud but the quality is incredible. I typically use only sennheiser hd headphones if that tells you about my personal taste in sound. I believe it’s made to pie with my tv so may not be quite as great on other models but for not even intending to buy this (or thinking I even needed it) this is truly been a great addition I do not regret

Good Upgrade for Soundbar
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was replacing my tv and sound system and settled on the TCL 6 series 65 inch tv and that was a fairly easy choice and I'm very satisfied with that choice. Replacing my older Bose cube speakers wasn't as easy. My nearest Best Buy store is in Medford, Oregon and I went there and saw and listened to several soundbars. I went home to think about it and tried to order the LG SK 10Y soundbar on the Best Buy open box site but for some reason could not complete the purchase, I then purchased the LG SK 9Y from the Best Buy open box section and it went through. I received it quickly and the box was in excellent shape. I checked the soundbar and subwoofer and found both to be in excellent condition just as the site indicated. Set up was easy, although I forgot to initially change the settings in my tv to recognize the new sound bar and its connection by way of HDMI ARC. Once I fixed that issue it worked great I like it and the sound is good, especially for movies and TV. As for just playing music on it, in my opinion , you would be better off with a higher end Yamaha soundbar or my personal favorite, the Sony ST 5000. Agsain, I would have preferred the LG SK 10Y soundbar but this LG SK 9Y soundbar is good. It would probably be better with the 2 rear wireless speakers but my room size isn't set up for that. I would recommend this soundbar for someone who wants new and decent stuff on a budget.

Good Atmos Sound for a Good Price
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had a nightmare experience with both models of the Samsung Atmos Soundbar (HK950 and N950 - the sound from both of these was amazing when it worked with the rear Atmos speakers). Both models stopped accepting the ARC signal from my LG OLED TV. I thought it was possible that it was my TV, but the only way to know for sure was to get a different brand. I considered the Sony and SK9Y, but the Sony was $1499 and the SK9Y was on sale for $750, and neither one had true rear Atmos speakers like the Samsung. I thought the Sony sounded a little better in the showroom, but with the ability to add surround speakers to the SK9Y, the price difference, and the thought that matching brands may help with any issues, I went with the SK9Y. So far, no issues with connectivity, and no other bugs (the Samsung had bugs galore outside of the ARC issue). That's been worth its weight in gold, as I haven't had to spend one second with customer service, unlike the hours and hours I spent on the phone with Samsung. In addition, the SK9Y passes through Dolby Vision, which the HK950 did not do (I didn't have the N950 long enough to see if it had the capability). In addition, it allows Atmos through ARC from the Netflix App on my TV, which the HK950 did not do either. As far as the sound goes, its good, but not as good as the Samsung offerings. The bass could be stronger and the Atmos effects are not as sharp. For non-Atmos sound, the effects settings are strange, as the Movie effect is way louder than any of the other settings. Listening to music is so so, it probably sounds better on my small Bose Soundlink. I added the rear surround speakers, and they really enhance the experience. Probably a better choice than the Sony, as the Sony does not have any option to make it a true surround system. If I did not already own an Atmos system in the Samsung, I would probably think this system sounded amazing. All that being said, I am very satisfied with this system. It greatly enhances my entertainment experience, I get to enjoy all the new audio/video formats, and you know what, it works without any issues. You can't ask for much more.

Bigger Isn’t Always Better
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Don’t let my review summary or my rating of 4 stars confuse you, this new LG 5.1.2 Soundbar with wireless subwoofer is excellent for most people. However you don’t get that bang for you buck wow factor you think you’d get from initially purchasing it. This certainly delivers on the “filling a room” aspect, however it’s filled mainly with treble and a lot of voice (this was before messing with the EQ settings). The soundbar itself is amazing, those two speakers on top of the bar providing sound to your ceiling and then bouncing off directly to your eardrums are no joke. Unfortunately the sounbdar peaks early, since the sound quality is only good with the “cinema” preset on, if you switch it to anything else, for example, music or standard, the sound level drops dramatically even though the volume is all the way up. LG does state in their manual that is it not a defect so at least they acknowledged it. You think having realized this they’d fix it before putting it on the shelves. The subwoofer while big and awesome looking as it may be, also lacks the oomph that its aesthetics give off. Straight out of the box I couldn’t wait for it to deliver that thumping base to feel every rumble in my seat, and then I turned it on. While the Bass Blast setting helps a little I still couldn’t help but feel that LG dropped the ball here. Even when watching content enabled with Dolby Atmos I didn’t feel the deep rumbles you think you’d get when you look at the subwoofer. Dolby Atmos really only helps out the soundbar, squeezing out every last detail in sound from all 7 speakers. Overall the system is quite good for what it’s meant to be used as, to fill a room, however the subwoofer and the lack of sound adjustability in the soundbar really don’t justify the price tag.

Nice Features / Horrible Sound For Price
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was not impressed at all with this product and for the price point they are selling this at reinforced that feeling even more. There are other all in one systems half the price that provide better sound quality. Pros: Preset Sound Effects (Movie, Music, Etc) Easy Setup Features Software Functionality Durable Cons: LG WiFi Speaker Software Privacy Concerns Treble Muffled at High Peaks Bass mid to non existent lows Equalizer limited to +5 for each Closed system, unable to add additional wireless speakers to system Setup / Installation: It was packages nicely and easy to setup. The connections in the back are easy to reach however I wished the power cord for the sound bar was longer. The wireless sub-woofer easily connected without problems once plugged in . Sound Quality: For the amount you pay for this system you would think the sound quality would at least be above average. The sound is flat, voices at wrong pitch and bass is nonexistent except for the sub-woofer. Even when trying to change the equalizer settings or going through the sound effect modes there was very little improvement. The environment this was setup in was a medium sized room, non-carpet and walls to allow the sound to bounce. I have another sound bar system that is half the price and produces better sound quality. Features: I did enjoy the amount of feature this system had and the available input modes it allows. The WiFi feature to push via Chromcast was easy to use and very convenient when using through multiples systems on the network. The Bluetooth turns it into a large speaker system for a remote device and the optical / HDMI ports for traditional connections. It also provides a 4K upscale when pushing video through the system. However since I do not have a 4K TV I was unable to test that feature. It has a "Night Mode" Auto Power mode and option to use the same controller as the tv. All these features were nice to use and really help making the experience easier to setup. It has additional settings to setup ms delay and AV Sync and Rear Speaker output which allows for more advance customization. LG WiFi Speaker Software: The software is not included with the package itself and must be downloaded through the google/apple store. It is fairly small and allows full range of customization of the system. The step by step setup guide was great to follow and did not have any issues connecting. The software also allows you to control additional LG speak systems if you purchase other speaker products from them. I really enjoyed using this software as it make it very easy to switch input source , stream music / play lists and customize settings versus using that controller. The only issue I have is the 2 hidden data collection items. You have to really hunt for them to disable them. One is located under the 3 lines - settings gear at bottom of ribbon, then within there its labeled as "participate in user enhancement" - it sends user logs to them. The question is what are in those user logs?? The other is the gear located on the sound bar icon itself, once in there you scroll all the way to the bottom and it is under "share usage Data" It collects usage data via chromcast... again what are in those "usage data logs" Overall if this was priced at half of the 900 it is currently at then I would change this to a 4 star. The sound quality in no way justifies the high price. For what they are asking you can personally build a 5.1.2 surround system that would be comparable.

Great soundbar after some patience
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Overall, this is a great soundbar. This soundbar was fairly easy to wall mount, the instructions provided were pretty good. When i first set the soundbar up, i was not impressed with the sound at all. In fact, i was quite disappointed. After tinkering with the sound options, i was able to find settings that made the sound pretty good, but still i felt the sub-woofer was lacking. Believe it or not, after a couple days, i found the sub-woofer to be significantly better - now i have to turn it down because it's so loud. Not sure if anyone else has ran into that, but it happened to me. Adding the rear speaker kit really helped complete the sound - I highly recommend it if you want the full sound experience. If you're not happy with the soundbar at first, play around with the settings and you should be able to find this is a pretty spectacular soundbar. Very satisfied. Another great LG product.

Great Sound
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this sound bar on Cyber Monday for $450 and I couldn't be happier! I really didn't want to spend the normal $700+ and the majority of negative reviews I've read are that it's too expensive for the quality... but getting such a good deal made it amazing! It had some odd quirks when I first set it up, like the bass almost nonexistent for the first couple days. I actually almost returned it but I found some reviews of people saying that it eventually gets louder and then stays that way. I was like... no way... that is the dumbest thing I've ever heard but it was true. After a couple days of usuage, now the bass is great for my room size and I couldn't be happier. Love it soo much and will for ling time. I have it hung up on wall under my 70 inch LG tv and it is a beautiful sight, even for sore eyes. I initially thought it stuck out a little too far off the wall but now I really like it and wouldn't have it any other.

Great fit with my LG OLED TV
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I replaced an older 5.1 Sony AV system with this LG Soundbar so I could enjoy Dolby Atmos. Adding the rear SPK8 speaker kit rounds out the system. It took a few days to get used to the difference in sound. At first I thought the soundbar was "tinny" and the SPK8 rear speakers were not working. After changing some settings (boosting the subwoofer, adjusting the sound levels, etc. on the soundbar, AND increasing the SPK8 to level 6 (the highest level), this system now sounds much better than the old 5.1 system. I just wish I had bought it sooner, but then I wouldn't have gotten the unbeatable deal for the floor model that I received.

No complaints so far
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had my eye on a previous similar model (the LG SJ9) but missed out on last year's Black Friday deal. I happened to be in Best Buy for another purchase when I noticed that this new model was in stock AND on sale for the Black Friday price of the older model. So I jumped all over that and brought it home with me. Everything has been great so far: setup was a breeze, I've been very pleased with the performance, and it seems to nicely fill the space of my large basement entertainment area. Even just with the soundbar and woofer (i.e., no rear speakers), there have been times when I muted the audio because I swore I heard something behind me -- but it was just the simulated surround sound effect! I'm not audiophile or surround sound aficionado, but I'd definitely recommend this for anyone looking for a reasonably priced 5.1.2 Dolby Atmos soundbar.

Wish I would have waited for Meridian enhancements
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The SK9Y is a good sound bar with top and end cap speakers for Dolby Atmos. I’m anxious to hear it with Dolby-A. As a TV audio system, the subwoofer is weak until you watch content from streaming channels, Netflix etc. The rear powered wireless speakers are mandatory. But they too are weak using sound data from Directv or or other non-streaming sources. Now with Meridian audio technology, I suspect the 2019 Sk9y sub and overall sound will be significantly improved. The Sk10y includes Meridian electronics. BTW- my Lg system is used with a Samsung QN75Q8fn. Buy the 2019 Sk9y or discounted 2018 Sk10y.

||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It's all good. Don't pay more than $250
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The associate pushed me into this sound bar since it was $250 off for Cyber Monday, plus $200 more off since I bought a TV. It ended up being $250 plus tax. That being said, even with the LG auto sync on it is slightly off with the lag. Most people probably wouldn't notice though. The subwoofer is terrible. Non existent, I even asked the associate about other reviews saying it wasn't very powerful. He showed me another LG sub and said it was comparable. Not even close, wish I went with the Samsung and 2 additional speakers for same wattage and comparable price.
