• I believe the door can come off. This is a BIG washer, though.

• I think you misread the dimensions. After my door was removed, there was only a 29.5 inch opening (I had some trim that used up 0.5 inches of my 30 inch door opening). The washer made it through the door. The specs that I read when ordering the washer said the washer was 29 inches wide.
