Is 3d passive or active null

It is Passive. Best of all, 3D glasses from your local theater can be used with this TV. Please see image attached.

On UHD channels the 3D is active! Looks great! On a 3D movie it is even more vivid and crisp! We have kids and so the 3D is definitely worth it for us. :)

LG implements passive 3D. The 55UH8500 comes with two glasses, and I bought a set of 4 online for $10 total. Dolby Vision supports upscaling from 2D to 3D, with some ability to play with that upscaling through settings.
